The Suicide Mission

This is most definitely a post about Mass Effect 2 and Life.  So if either of those interest you head on past the break.
Right now I'm obsessed with Mass Effect, so like any gamer I equate certain aspects of gaming to real life.  For those who have never played Mass Effect 2 (most or even all of you) then you should go play it and get a deeper understanding for what I'm about to write.  I will do my best to avoid spoilers.

So in Mass Effect 2 your character, Shephard, must save humanity from annihilation from aliens.  The whole point of the game is to create a team that will be able to help you through this mission which has been aptly called "The Suicide Mission."  It is the final mission of the game and definitely the most difficult part of the game.

What makes the Suicide Mission difficult is that you have a bunch of choices to make in the mission.  For example, you have to divide up your team to have them deal with other tasks, such as opening a door for you or protecting survivors.  The game will allow you to place any party member into any role, but there are negative consequences to poor decision making.

First off, your teammates can and will die if they are placed into a role that is not adequately suited for them.  To best understand what roles will be best for them, you must get to know your characters, read their backgrounds and learn about them.  Secondly, if you make too many poor decisions, you may very well get your main character killed thus ending the game on an incredibly sad note.  It places a great deal of responsibility on the player to know their team as if Shephard would.

So how does this relate to life?  I feel that relationships are the Suicide Mission.  That sounds awful when I say it like that.  But really, what does the Suicide Mission represent?  It is a culmination of all of your experiences, memories and thoughts.  It is the peak of your learning experience.  And I think that every relationship builds on said suicide mission.  Poor decision making can lead to the end of a relationship, so next time you try and avoid making that same mistake.

Really, love and relationships are just various sets of trial and error, just hoping that this time you will make it through to the other side with all of your teammates alive.  But you have an advantage over Shephard, if he messes up he dies; if you mess up, you can always do another suicide mission and hope that this time you will not make the same mistakes.

Boom, Mass Effect blog post!
